What It Means For You

  • All premises are required to have a premises licence which must name a premises manager
  • The premises licence can be held in the owner's name, whether an individual or a company
  • All premises must have a 'premises manager' who is named on the premises licence as the person responsible for running those premises
  • You can only be the premises manager for one premises
  • To be a premises manager you must hold a personal licence
  • You can apply for a personal licence from 1 February 2008
  • Application forms for premises and personal licences will be available from your local Licensing Board
  • All staff who serve alcohol must be trained by 1 September 2009
  • The Scottish Qualifications Authority will be able to provide you with details of accredited training providers who can offer the personal licence holder qualification
  • A person who holds a personal licence can deliver in-house training to their colleagues
  • Councils will appoint one or more Licensing Standards Officers who will provide information and guidance on the requirements of the Act, supervise compliance with conditions of licence and provide mediation for resolving disputes
