In the past it was not possible to seize the assets of drug dealers. The legislation that brought about a change in the law in Scotland is known as the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

This created for the first time the opportunity to recover money and seized assets and put them back into communities to improve the lives of those most affected by drug dealing. This is known as “Payback” and the campaign carries this logo – letting you know that this activity has been paid for by assets recovered from crime.

In addition funding which comes from assets seized is being directly reinvested in local communities through Community Safety Partnerships to improve the lives of those most affected by drug dealing.

But what does this look like in practice? One of the most exciting and tangible ways in which POCA funding has benefited communities is through a scheme known as “Twilight Basket ball” this involves the Scottish Rocks basketball team who have supported a coaching and mentoring programme with young people in communities in Scotland.
