Insulate your loft and save money

Go Greener has teamed up with the Energy Saving Trust to make insulating your loft as easy as picking up the phone. See below for the assistance available in your area.

Why insulate your loft?

  • In an un-insulated home, 26% of heat is lost through the roof.
  • You can save up to £150 a year on your heating bills by insulating your loft from an initial outlay of as little as £100. This is based on a 3 bed, semi-detached home with gas central heating.
  • If we all insulated our lofts, around 330,000 tonnes of CO2 could be saved each year in Scotland.
  • Most homes can benefit from loft insulation. If you're not sure what to do, or to find out if your home is suitable, call your local Energy Saving Trust Scotland advice centre on 0800 512 012 for help and advice.
  • Thinking about DIY? Save time and effort by using a supplier recommended by the Energy Saving Trust – and make use of the offers and grants available.

  2. Put the survey appointment in your diary
    After arranging a survey you will receive a confirmation letter but make sure to take note of the appointment too! Your local advice centre will also arrange for the time to be confirmed by letter.

  3. Agree the estimate and date for your loft to be insulated
    If the survey is successful, you will be given a cost and date for the work to be carried out. Depending on your circumstances you maybe entitled to free insulation. Contact your local Energy Saving Trust Scotland advice centre for more information.

  4. Clear your loft or roof space
    Make sure you have time to clear the roof space if you use it for storage.

  5. And relax
    After the work is completed, turn down the heating and take time to think about the money you are saving!
