Care Homes Guide
This guidance is applicable to general fire safety in premises in which a care home service is provided, as defined in the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001. These care homes can provide a service for the following category of resident:
- Older people;
- Children and young people;
- People with learning disabilities;
- People with drug and alcohol problems;
- People with mental health problems; and
- People with physical and sensory impairment.
There may be other premises which have similar fire risk characteristics to care homes and to which the contents of this guide may be appropriate.
Following consultation on the second guide (Offices, Shops and Similar Premises) and during drafting of the next few guides in the series, the care homes guide was reviewed and a number of changes were made. A summary of the changes is available to download here:
Further changes were made as work progressed on the series of fire safety guides. These changes were made in order to ensure consistency across the series, especially in respect of generic text. The further revised guide is available in both HTML and PDF format as well as being searchable from the search page:
